BE PART OF A GS TEAM

What are GS teams?

We believe the church functions best when everyone plays their part. At Gas Street the GS Teams provide an opportunity for everyone to use their gifts to make Sunday Gatherings a place where people encounter God and find community. You can be a part of making that happen!

Why should I be part of a GS team?

Our hope is that when you become part one of our GS Teams you will feel connected into the life and vision of the church, as well as feeling enriched and encouraged in your own faith. It is also a great way to get to know people!

How can I be part of a GS Team?

Click on the titles below to find out more about what being part of each GS Team involves:

+ Creative Media Team

What is involved in being a part of this GS Team?

The Gas Street Creative Media Team are the visual communicators of our church. Our Photographers and Videographers capture gatherings and events to show what’s going on in the life of the Gas Street on Social Media and in other forms. Our Designers represent our brand by creating our graphics for Gas Street Social Media, gatherings and other Gas Street events. If you have any creative experience, we’d love to hear from you!

How often do I serve as part of this GS Team?

We ask our Photographers to serve at a minimum of one gathering each month, but there will be additional opportunity to serve at mid-week events including GS Groups or conferences etc.

Our Videographers serve ad-hoc on projects and events when required. Our Designers work either individually or as a team on various projects as and when required

Do I need to have relevant experience?

Our Photographers and Videographers would need to own their own camera and have a strong knowledge of and experience in taking photos, plus a good eye to set up and capture creative and aesthetically pleasing images

Our Designers need experience in graphic design, including using software such as InDesign and Photoshop, and be able to work independently from home

What type of person are you looking for?

Gas Street Photographers and Videographers are always interacting with members of the church, so we are looking for team members who are warm and welcoming to those attending our gathering, organised in following the brief for each event, and in editing and uploading images and footage within an often tight time schedule. Team members are required to be able to balance the need to demonstrate the ethos, vision and fun of our gatherings whilst being sensitive and respectful to the privacy and preferences of those attending our gatherings

Gas Street Designers need to be flexible and adaptable with their skills and creativity and be willing to work within the Gas Street Brand Guidelines. An ability to work within a team and to tight timescales is essential to produce the best quality graphics

Do I need to have been a Christian (or at Gas Street) for a long time to sign-up?

No, we are happy for anyone to be part of this GS Team if they have experience within Creative Media and are happy to work within our guidelines

What will I get out of being part of this GS Team?

This team is a great opportunity to use and develop your Creative skills as part of a team who are seeking to be Spirit led in their God given creativity. You will be a part of visually telling the story of all God is doing at Gas Street and in the City of Birmingham

+ Events Team

What is involved in being a part of this GS Team?

With such an amazing and versatile building, we host many different organisations and events throughout the year, from conferences, to carol services for schools, to dinners for the homeless. In order to make all of these happen and make people feel at home, we need people to help welcome people on the door, serve drinks, prepare meals or help with the setup - there’s a wide variety of roles to get involved in

How often do I serve as part of this GS Team?

We’d ask for you to be involved in events on an adhoc basis depending on what’s going on. If you have midweek availability then that’s even better!

Do I need to have relevant experience?

No experience is required. You just need to be friendly, up for hosting people and being a dab hand in the kitchen would be an added bonus!

What type of person are you looking for?

Someone who is friendly, keen to host people and make them feel at home, as well as up for getting involved in anything that might come up

Do I need to have been a Christian (or at Gas Street) for a long time to sign-up?

No - we are keen for anyone that is passionate about getting involved to be a part of this GS Team

What will I get out of being part of this GS Team?

Being part of the Events Team we’d hope you’d build new friendships within the team as well as having the privilege of making people feel at home and welcome in our church building and seeing the impact that that has on them and the organisations we host

+ Hello&Welcome - Café Team

What is involved in being a part of this GS Team?

The Café Team is the hub of our hospitality here at Gas Street. Welcoming guests with a hot coffee and warm smile is integral to the culture and you could be a part of making this happen. You will be instrumental in making sure everything is ready on time for when people arrive, clearing away the equipment to set up for the next gathering at the end, and making everyone who walks through the doors feel a part of the family of Gas Street

How often do I serve as part of this GS Team?

Every two weeks. Café Team members need to arrive up to an hour before the gathering starts for a briefing, prayer, and to be ready to welcome those who arrive early

Do I need to have relevant experience?

No experience is required. All you need is a warm smile and a passion for hospitality. However, if you have got previous Barista experience then that’s brilliant!

What type of person are you looking for?

Anybody is welcome to be part of the Café Team. If you’re happy to wash up, talk to people and to get stuck in, you’re ready to get started

Do I need to have been a Christian (or at Gas Street) for a long time to sign-up?

No – it’s a brilliant way to meet people and get connected in at Gas Street

What will I get out of being part of this GS Team?

+ Hello&Welcome - Hosting Team

What is involved in being a part of this GS Team?

The Hosting Team is the first point of contact for every person who comes into Gas Street. We welcome people on the door, look out for new people, and help people feel comfortable and confident. We also act as connection points to the life of Gas Street - making both personal introductions and connecting people into groups and teams. Our job is to help newcomers become part of a community

How often do I serve as part of this GS Team?

Every two weeks. Hosting Team members need to arrive up to an hour before the gathering starts for a briefing, prayer, and to be ready to welcome those who arrive early. Host teams usually stay for about half an hour after each gathering for conversation and tidying up

Do I need to have relevant experience?

No experience required! All you need is a warm smile and to be happy to make new connections and get stuck in with some of the other jobs we do (things like putting out extra chairs or picking up empty coffee cups). We give a training session for all new team members on the day they begin, to cover the basic things you need to know

What type of person are you looking for?

Anybody is welcome to be part of the Hosting Team. If you’re happy to talk to people and to get stuck in with our other practical jobs, you’re ready to get started

Do I need to have been a Christian (or at Gas Street) for a long time to sign-up?

No; it’s common for people to become part of the Hosting Team after a few weeks of starting to come to Gas Street. It’s also a fantastic way for you to meet new people - both on your team and in the wider church community

What will I get out of being part of this GS Team?

You’ll build friendships with people on your team and in the church and get to partake in the buzz of pulling together a Sunday gathering. You’ll receive training in skills needed for the job in our termly team training sessions. And you’ll be a key part of what God is doing here in Gas Street: so many people have found home here because of the warmth of the welcome they have received

+ Gas Street Kids Team

What is involved in being a part of this GS Team?

A regular Sunday in the day of the life of a Gas Street Kids Team member would include arriving at 8:15am for team brief, set up and praying with the wider Church before welcoming the kids at 9:30am. Then there may be games, stories, crafts, worship, prayer which we’d love for you to assist the Team Leader in facilitating. There will also be opportunities for you to grow in leading as you become familiar with Gas Street Kids. Then we do it all again for the 11:30sm gathering!

We also have GS Team Nights twice a term which is a fantastic chance to get to know others within the team better and receive input and guidance on how to maximise the Sunday sessions

How often do I serve as part of this GS Team?

We ask for GS Team members to serve once a month, on the same Sunday each month (i.e. first Sunday) at both 10:30am and 4pm gatherings where possible

Do I need to have relevant experience?

No - just a heart for Kids, a willingness to get involved, and openness to growing your skills

What type of person are you looking for?

We are looking for people who are committed to caring for the Kids and wanting to journey with them in faith. This may look like someone who is warm and loving, willing to get stuck in and put the Kids first as they listen to, engage with and lead the Kids through the sessions

Do I need to have been a Christian (or at Gas Street) for a long time to sign-up?

No

What will I get out of being part of this GS Team?

We hope that you will find relationships and connections within the wider Gas Street Kids Team, as well as have opportunities to develop understanding and skills with working with Kids. Not to mention the privilege and fun of journeying alongside the Kids as they unpack who God is

+ Gas Street Youth Team

What is involved in being a part of this GS Team?

There are several different strands to Gas Street Youth from our Sunday 11:30am Younger Youth gathering sessions, to our Friday Night Youth, 'The Oak' on Wednesday's, our Saturday Socials and our GS Team Nights. All have the same traits in that they are chances to build relationships with the Youth, to invest in them and to journey with them through their teenage years and faith

How often do I serve as part of this GS Team?

This depends on which group/s you are able to commit to. For our midweek groups we would be looking for twice a month, our Sundays groups we would be looking for once a month. Ultimately Youth ministry is all about building relationships, so we aim for a consistency, so you can get to know the youth, and they can get to know you

Do I need to have relevant experience?

No – just a heart for Youth, a willingness to get involved, and open to growing your skills

What type of person are you looking for?

We are looking for people who are committed to caring for the Youth and wanting to journey with them in their faith. This may look like someone who is warm and loving, willing to get stuck in and put the Youth first as they listen to, engage with and lead them through the sessions
