ELAYOS

Volunteer Opportunities: Various Times & Locations
Requirements: Training is provided

We are a new company in community working in Birmingham offering doula services to vulnerable & isolated women. In practical terms what that means is that we offer antenatal, birth & postnatal support by providing advocacy, accompanying to medical appointments, birth support & postnatal support. We also are committed to working with other voluntary, statutory & local organisations & as such we signpost to other specialist agencies & groups.

We have several opportunities to get involved!
We offer training to all our volunteers for whatever role they choose to do as well as ongoing support.

  • If you can drive a car you could accompany our clients to their antenatal appointments. Many of whom are homeless & don’t have easy access to the various hospitals. Once in the appointment, having another pair of listening ears absorbing the information given can be invaluable.

You don’t have to commit to the same number of hours each week. You simply view the Elayos google calendar & book out the appointments that you’re available for.

  • If you have medical experience you could be on hand to be birth support. When a client is 38 weeks pregnant we go “On-Call” for her 24/7 which means that we are on standby in case she goes into labour. When we get the call we either pick the client up & take her to the hospital or we meet there & remain with her, providing both physical & emotional support for the duration of the labour & delivery.

  • Do you have a couple of hours to spare during the week to become one of our postnatal support workers? This where we need the most help. Lots of ladies have had beautiful babies recently & we just can’t get round to see & support them as regularly as we’d like. We need volunteers to come alongside our new mums to make them a cup of tea, hold the newborn so that mum can have a hot drink, put a washing load on, be a listening ear, walk round the corner with them to the local stay & play etc

Ideally this would be a regular slot that you take each week.

If you’re signing up to help with antenatal care then you need a full, clean driving licence & access to a car.
As we are working with vulnerable adults, everyone is required to have a DBS which can be provided through Elayos.

If you would like to sign up or ask any questions please email me at hope@elayos.co.uk

NEWBIGIN COMMUNITY TRUST

Volunteer Opportunities: Various Times & Locations
Requirements: Training is provided

Newbigin House is an embedded urban mission based in Winson Green. We value inclusion and participation by all, however we actively work at trying to connect with those who are often excluded from mainstream society. Our vision is to see God’s transforming power at work in the lives of the poor and forgotten in our society. We love seeing the gifts that God has given to all those who live in our community and providing support so that those gifts can be used, and dreams come alive for the transformation of our neighbourhood. We passionately believe that as you get to build relationships here God will use you to share his love to the people you encounter.
